2023-2024

3rd January 2024

Happy Hew Year to you all.

I am happy to report that the leagues are progressing well  for which I thank all club Reps. and Competition Secretaries. Great job!

Over the next month I will be sending out a couple of surveys with respect to the print league which you might like to consider in advance. The first will be regarding print sizes should they always be 40cm x 50cm or “up to” 40cm x 50cm.

The second question on whether the number of clubs in each print division should be reduced as 64 prints is often too many to handle for some smaller clubs.

I’ll be in touch by email later in the month.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Peter

29th October

The labels, images and manual scoresheets were made available yesterday. Unfortunately we had to delay the release because one club had not paid their SCPF subscriptions. Had they not paid we would have had to rejig the lower leagues. Anyway, panic over!

Just a reminder, that the the downloads are available from the Uploader by logging into the Online Directory – the clickable buttons are obvious!

Within the image folders is an Excel Scoresheet. For example “SCPF PR League Div3 Score Sheet.xlsm” is for the Print League Division 3.  The spreadsheets make it much easier for you by calculating the scores, count-back and points even for clubs with exactly the same result. Further more, it is easier for me to record the scores and get the updated results returned to you quickly – please use them!

The spreadsheet also has an aide-memoir of the accepted marking guidelines for the league competitions as approved by the SCPF  Judging Advisory Team which, when followed, provides a consistent scoring across matches.

The first event of the season kicks off this coming Thursday, 2nd November at Basingstoke CC – PR Div 1.

Good luck to you all!

Peter

17th October

I know many of you are champing at the bit and wanting to print labels and download the images however the earliest we can make them available is the Friday 27th October.

As some of you are aware, there have been issues with the uploader which has delayed the image review by the sensitivity panel.

Secondly, the issue with the new uploader, meant that some club’s league images were overwritten by their exhibition images. We are still waiting for their league entries. No fault on the club’s part, by the way!

Finally, several clubs have not paid their subscriptions which means that they cannot take part in SCPF competitions. Please can you make sure your club has paid their subs. as we really want as many clubs as possible to take part in this season’s leagues.

9th September

Uploader presentation done. Now we have only 21 days to upload our images. (I say we, ’cause I’ll be doing it for Bracknell CC)

  • 8 Prints (PR)
  • 8 Digital Images (DI)

To enter the images is quite straight forward once you get into the uploader.

To get into the uploader you’ll have your email address registered in the Club Listings in the Directory as “Competition Secretary”. (Really should be titled as SCPF Competition Secretary)

Once registered go into the Directory, change password if necessary. In the directory at the bottom of the page is a section marked “Uploader Overview”. Click to enter.

The beauty of the new uploader is that entries to the League, Exhibition and Championship may be uploaded at any time up to the deadline without having to wait for the one upload to finish before entering the next competition.

This is a significant improvement; I hope you agree.

If you have any issues logging into the directory first check that your club secretary has your email address in the Competition Secretary field of the Club Directory.

If problems persist, please contact Jason at webmaster@southerncountiespf.org.uk

Happy uploading

Peter

2nd September 2023

I have received many emails regarding access to the uploader. I am told that all will be revealed at the Reps’ meeting on Friday 8th.

At the moment I am as much in the dark as all of you.

29th August 2023

My apologies for any uploader issues.

I understand that the uploader is working and can be accessed by the Competition Secretaries as listed in the SCPF Club Directories.

Jason will be demonstrating the new uploader at the Reps’ meeting scheduled for the 8th September which leaves 22 days to update the directory and upload the images for the leagues.

Sorry for the lack of communication until now.

Peter

No peace for the wicked!

Please would you let me have the dates of next season’s competitions at your earliest convenience so that I can firm up the leagues and divisions quickly. Remember the divisions listed on these pages are provisional and will only be confirmed once I have all the dates.

Have a good break.

Progress Report

We have completed 40 of the 87 league competitions for this season and it seems from where I’m sitting, collating the scores and distributing the results, it’s going pretty smoothly. Thank you.

Just one thing though ……..

Scoring System

There have been a couple of instances where the  judge failed to adhere to the league competition scoring system.

The scoring system for the league competitions are clearly described in the League Rules and the SCPF Judging Guidance explains in greater detail what is needed and why.

Marking Scheme

  1. For SCPF League matches, hosting clubs must ensure that judges use the SCPF Judging Guidance (Version 1.2 Issued Feb 2022)
  2. General Principles
    1. Adopt a normal marking range of 6-10.
    2. Mark images relatively to one another.
      1. Relative means there will be at least one high score of 10 and one low score 6, irrespective of the overall perceived level of quality.
      2. A score of <6 may be awarded (hopefully rarely) if an image does not meet the expected base competence level.

It is up to hosting clubs to ensure judges are reminded of the scoring system prior to appraising the images and we should not be allowing the judges to dictate the marking scheme for our competitions.

Before I get any responses from you telling me “It’s up to the judge”, I would say that if we asked a judge to score images as Gold, Silver, Bronze etc we wouldn’t expect them to score from 10 – 7.

The judges provide a service and must mark according to our league rules.

Why not send a copy of the League Rules and the Guidance to the judge and if the judge is not prepared to follow the scoring system choose another judge from our excellent SCPF pool.

The rules were refreshed at the beginning of this season: if you haven’t, I urge you to take a look at them.

Print League Matches

The Council has agreed that digital images (PDIs) of the prints in league competitions must not be sent to judges/appraisers beforehand – even if requested. The prints must be first seen, appraised and scored on the night.

Collection of Prints

There have been a couple of incidences lately of clubs not collecting prints for their round of the competition.

Therefore, may I remind all print league participants that it is their responsibility to send delegates on the night of the competition to the club hosting the preceding round of the competition to assist in packing the print boxes at the end of the evening and to take the print boxes with them. (See rule 24 and 25)

To be honest, even though it’s been a couple of years since we last held the print league,  I didn’t think this reminder would be necessary.

Print League

Just a quick reminder that at the end of each competition evening that prints must be sorted by Club and placed in the appropriate box before being handed over to the representative of the next hosting club.

Dicentra when using Zoom

It was reported by Sue form Niton DCC while holding a competition over Zoom using Dicentra that our Members couldn’t see the Titles or scores when keyed in.

Steve Wilbur is going to put the information in his Zoom FAQ for DiCentra.

In the meantime:

When using DiCentra over Zoom, if the image details bar (and held back panel etc) is not being propagated to remote attendees…
on the host screen, go to ‘Zoom settings -> Share Screen -> Share applications’ and set on ‘Share all windows from an application’

Downloads, scoresheets and labels are now available

Image files, calibration charts, scoresheets and print labels are ready for download from the SCPF League Uploader.  Click on the dropdown and you’ll find the DI images (1600 x 1200) and the SCPF calibration chart. Print labels and scoresheet can be found in the “Printables” section of the dropdown. The labels can be printed directly from the pdf  and used with Avery template L7165 (2 x 4 labels/A4). Take care to untick “Headers and Footers” in print menus when printing scoresheets and labels.

In addition to the printable scoresheet I’ll be emailing an Excel spreadsheet which includes automatic reckoning of the scores and club positions on the night.

Please let me know if you come across any snags with the downloads or need help in any way.

Good luck

Peter

Scoresheets, image upload etc

Thanks for uploading your images and entry details for this season’s league competitions. I must admit that I was a little concerned the week before last, but I needn’t have worried, it seems no matter how early we open the database for entries 80% of the entries are made in the last possible week at the very last moment.

I should have expected it!

There’s still some work to do and Jason and I are busy making sure everything is in order and ready for you when the time comes.

We are planning to make the image files available for download and to publish the printable score sheets on the 17th October 2022. They will be available here  Portal / Uploads

At the time, I will send you an Excel spreadsheet by email which may be useful on the night and ideal for sending me the results of your hosting competition.

Until then, have a good couple of weeks.

Peter

League update

It’s nice to see the first entries for the league in the database which means the uploader is functioning normally. So far, the image titles and photographer names have been entered as called for in the general rules. Thank you.

Most clubs have sent me their hosting dates and judge for the evening and the information has been published on this website.  If clubs are hosting their meeting on-line using Zoom, I can publish this information as well. Please let me know if you are.

Keep the entries coming in, the sooner the better please as we have a lot of checking to do before we go live.

See you at the Reps’ meeting on the 13th.

Peter

Uploader open for league entries

Jason has informed me that the uploader is now open for next season’s print and digital image entries – well ahead of schedule!

Please use the convention described in the general rules for the naming the image and entering the photographer’s name and distinctions to avoid a lot of work at this end making corrections.

The uploader closes at midnight on the 30th September as usual.

Updated Rules

The General and League Rules have been refreshed and updated and are available from the link on the sidebar for viewing and downloading. Please send any feedback, good or bad, to league@southerncountiespf.org.uk

Dates and Judges

The competitions dates and judge for the evening are inputted to the league tables as soon as I receive the details. Please keep them coming and if you could let me know how your hosting evening will be run that would be great.

Enjoy the rest of this dry summer.

Peter

20th June 2022

League Preparations

There have been changes to divisions 2, 3 and 4 in the PRINT league. The rearrangements are as a result of another club deciding not to participate this season.

The PRINT and DIGITAL IMAGE league pages have been updated with the new divisions, blank results pages and the latest competition dates. Please be aware that the divisions may change as clubs decide whether or not to participate in the leagues this season.

Please check my entries for typos and that you’re in the division you expected. The competitions dates and judge for the evening are listed according to the latest information I have. The list will be updated as I receive the latest from you. Please email corrections and updates to league@southerncountiespf.org.uk

The uploader will be ready for the 1st September or sooner and will close for entries on 30th September 2022.

You should plan to have the first print fixtures after the November Reps Meeting and the last print fixture completed one week before the Championships in order for the prints to be handed over.

Have a good Summer!

Peter
